Archisha, a 9th-grade student at Espoo International School, spent her TET week at Taksvärkki’s office. Introduction to working life, or TET, is a short work placement included in the curriculum of lower secondary school in Finland. As part of the placement, Archisha also wrote this blog post.
TET gave new skills and even took out of the comfort zone
Working at the Taksvärkki office for TET was an invaluable opportunity to acquire a variety of new skills. Of course, I began by mastering the art of shutting down the laptop, but on a more serious note, I delved into conducting and analyzing surveys. This task required a meticulous approach to ensure the data collected was accurately interpreted.
In addition to survey work, I got hands-on experience managing Taksvärkki’s social media platforms. I created engaging videos for Children’s Day and designed posters highlighting children’s rights. These creative projects helped me understand the importance of effective communication and digital outreach.
One of the personal challenges I faced was my discomfort with interacting with new people. However, conducting a survey at the University of Helsinki was an eye-opener. It made me realize that engaging with others isn’t as daunting as I had previously thought. This experience significantly pushed me out of my comfort zone, and to my surprise, it wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated.

Throughout the week, I not only developed new skills but also honed existing ones. I learned about risk management, the importance of taking regular breaks, and efficient time management. The people at Taksvärkki were incredibly supportive and always ready to lend a hand whenever I needed assistance.
My TET week was a rollercoaster of fun and work. I picked up a few practical skills and some great work experience. Turns out, I’m pretty good at more than just switching off the laptop!
